Alasdair and Sandra Keane established Keane Associates in May 2000 to provide independent hydrology related services to regional councils, dam owners, power and water utility companies, and civil engineering consultancies.
Today, 12 years on, Keane Associates provides tailored hydrology services to many of the same clients we started out with in our first year of operation. We continue to support regional councils, hydro generators and civil engineers with analytical and data management related services. Some recent clients include farmers and horticulturists seeking resource consents for water takes or irrigation dams. Keane Associates has been engaged in various capacities in several large power related projects including schemes proposed on the lower Waitaki and Wairau rivers in New Zealand and a long term power planning study in the Republic of Sudan.
Principal and hydrologist Alasdair Keane started his hydrology career with the Ministry of Works hydrological survey team in Hamilton operating rainfall and river flow gauging stations and processing hydrometric data. In 1986 he transferred to the Power Division (later Works Consultancy Services) maintaining the national hydro-power database. He conceived and implemented the transfer of this database operation to a PC based platform, developing quality assurance procedures and written documentation. Alongside database responsibilities he was involved in supporting many technical studies related to hydro-power. During 1995 he visited Cambodia to develop and install a hydro-power database at the Department of Energy and Mines in Phnom Pehn.
In 1997 Alasdair joined DesignPower (NZ) Ltd (later PB Power) and was seconded to the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand for 18 months as the hydrologist in the Technical Specialists Group (later Damwatch). A short time after returning to PB Power he was appointed Water Resources Group Manager in 1999.
Sandra provides administrative support in Keane Associates while also working part-time as a school librarian.
